Just Another Day at Flipside

Ansh walked in a little late. He glanced at the clock, a sheepish smile forming as he quickly went over to clock in.
“Why are you late?” someone asked.
He shrugged. “We begin at 10:30, right?”
We smiled. That question held a story of its own.

Soon after, Sai Krupa arrived. The day began with something simple yet grounding: checking the date, the month, the weather.
What day was it yesterday?
What’s today?
And what’s coming tomorrow?

With that little anchor set, they moved into the morning healing circle. Quiet energy filled the room as they practiced healing movements, gentle vibrations shared between friends. A moment of giving and receiving, of grounding, of peace.

After a light snack, it was time to shift into the rhythm of daily life.

We recreated a home. A small apartment space where learning came alive.
How do you make your bed neatly?
Where should the corners be tucked?
Is the pillow in the right place?

They moved into the world of groceries next, off to the Flipside store for a simple, powerful lesson in comparative buying.
Here’s a packet of rice.
Here’s another.
Same quantity. Different prices.
Which one do you choose?
Why?

Then came laundry. They learned how to sort clothes, use the washing machine, measure the detergent, and wait.
When it was done, they took the washed clothes out, dried them carefully, ironed them with focus, and then arranged them neatly in their cupboard.

By now it was lunchtime. Everyone unpacked their boxes and gathered to eat. But even lunch was a learning moment.

“What did your plate have today?”
“Was it a balanced meal?”
“Was there enough colour on your plate?”
“Did you have protein, grain, vegetables, fruit?”

They reflected on what was missing.
And then came the best part, calling home.
“Amma, can you make some dal tonight?”
“Mumma, I need a fruit in my dabba tomorrow.”
Nutrition, slowly becoming a conversation they could lead.

The day continued with a short counselling session. Reflections, thoughts, small wins.
We celebrated the student of the week and the month-cheers, claps, hugs. Not for being perfect, but for showing up, consistently, bravely.

There were sessions on navigation, how to book a ride, how to read a map.
Sessions on soft skills, how to speak in the workplace, how to manage personal care, how to ask for help when needed.

And as the day wound down, they gathered again. One last check-in.
What did you learn today?
What made you smile?
What was hard?
What are you proud of?

Just another day at Flipside.
Filled with routine, intention, and tiny steps toward something bigger.
Independence, dignity, and the quiet joy of figuring it out, together.
